im not sure i like it as a roman faction player. I used to be able to hold africa with a single legion early one in vanilla, now not so much.

TBH i was a bit shocked how quickly minor factions got multiple full stacks going. Having a income of 20k per turn as the ERE by turn 20 or so feels great, but all it really means is that the sassanids are probably having a income like 40k or something. Yes it feels easier, but its also easier for the AI, kind of canceling out. You basicly only have to worry about sassanids and the vassals which are not that bad since they all come from the same direction allowing you to concentrate your armies. Actually its hard to point out big differences to vanilla, everything feels pretty natural.Įdit is alot easier than WRE, nothing to do with Radious. I would try it out, certainly doesn't feel disruptive. The game feels a bit more tactical, also some plain errors on CA part where fixed, like imperial rank advancing too fast(i had mine advance by 2 levels in vanialla as the danes while migrating to africa, i mean really? Im sailing around, not sacking or plundering or anything, on the high sea nonetheless with a single army and my empire is impressive?). One thing i noticed is that unit strengths and weaknesses seem more pronounced, bows are worse against armor, shock cav worse against melee cav and melee inf is worse against axe inf, things like that. I mean all the mechanical changes work both ways, though the human player is obviously better able to exploit them. On one hand i miss being able to quickly torch a flank of my empire so there are no more threats from that direction, on the other hand the CAI was sometimes going a bit wild with the torch which kind of turns the game from Total War:Attila to Settlers:Attila. The no torching settlements for non nomadic factions takes a bit getting used to though, its a major change of how wars go. Playing it feels pretty good, alot of the changes seem quite logic, like no flaming arrows for horsemen.

Also as im playing the romans atm i noticed you have access to more formations on many troops, for example advanced infantry can now do offensive aswell as defensive formation giving you more choice on how to play a fight. So yeah a major difference is that ranged units stay at range alot longer instead of suicide charging into a spearwall 5 min into a fight due to empty ammo. Ranged damage was nerfed a bit though, especially against armored forces.

For example the nordic skirmisher went from 9 to 16 javelins. For example the unit cards of ranged units now actually include what range they have, i know crazy right? Also bowmen can now carry more than 10 arrows or somesuch, and especially javelins feel alot more worthwhile now. The mechanical changes though make the game much better. Does it make the game easier? I guess that depends on the faction, i play it with the exta unit pack which DOES seem to imbalance the game somewhat fierce since some factions get more useful units than others(sometimes filling niches like heavy axemen or elite bowmen for faction than only had very basic before).
